Commercial carpet cleaning products are convenient, accessible, and affordable. However, they also contain a lot of harsh chemical substances that are bad for the environment. This can damage the carpet and release toxins in the locality as well.
As we learn more and more about the damage that some chemical compounds can do, many of us are making the switch from commercial cleaning products to natural carpet cleaners. These are safer, healthier, and often more affordable than buying a chemical product at the nearby grocery store. Just give it a try and you’ll find that the price tag on commercial cleaning products won’t be able to beat a homebrewed carpet cleaner with some ingredients that can be found in the kitchen cupboard!
Here are some ways to keep carpets in Braintree clean without the use of chemicals:
Clean the surface regularly
Surface cleaning helps dislodge and remove small dirt particles and irritants that would have otherwise burrowed into its fabric if left undisturbed. Carpet owners need to go over the surface with a broom or a vacuum cleaner at least once a week to help it stay in top condition for much longer.
Use vinegar, liquid soap, and water
The vinegar, soap, and water combination is a lifesaver for those trying to remove stains from a carpet. Mix one tablespoon of natural liquid soap, one-quarter of a teaspoon of white vinegar, and one quart of warm water in a bucket. Once the liquids have mixed, use a cloth to apply the solution to the stained area and blot until all the liquid has been absorbed.
Once the stain has been removed, sponge off the carpet with cold water and blot dry. The vinegar may give off a strong smell while the stain is being cleaned, but it will disappear by itself once it dries.
Try carbonated water
Another popular solution to lifting stains off of a carpet is carbonated water. Spritz the entire carpet with some carbonated water and then apply a small amount directly on the stain. After, blot the surface with a dry cloth or a paper towel. This will help lift the stain. Make sure to brush the carpet fibres upwards rather than forcing the stain deeper in!
Once the stain has been lifted, wash the carpet with warm water and some liquid soap. Finish off the process by scrubbing the carpet with a clean cloth and blotting it dry with a towel.
Use baking soda
Baking soda is one of the simplest ways to clean carpets, remove stains, and prevent odours. Simply sprinkle some baking soda onto the stain and let it sit for ten minutes. Vacuum it off once you are satisfied with the appearance of the carpet.
Go deep with borax
Borax is an all-natural carpet cleaner that is capable of heavy-duty cleaning. Mix equal parts salt, borax, and vinegar together to create a paste and rub this into the carpet. Leave it for a few hours and then rinse it off.
Use cornstarch for grease
Grease spots can be difficult to manage; however, cornstarch is an all-natural and foolproof way of keeping carpets cleaned. All that needs to be done is to sprinkle some cornstarch onto the stain and leave it for 15 to 30 minutes. The cornstarch will absorb the grease, leaving the carpet clean and fresh.
Green cleaning products are a great way to keep carpets clean while ensuring the health of anybody living in the building. Not many people think of the long-term effects that chemicals can have on the wellbeing of others because its effects are not as imminent; however, there are definitely improvements after an extended period of going green as a result of using natural products.
